Allen Lee Denton was born in Houston, Texas on November 12, 1947 and entered his eternal rest on April 4, 2024.

Allen grew up in North Houston and graduated from Sam Houston HS in 1966. He began his career at Southwestern Bell shortly after high school and was drafted in 1967. He entered the US Army in early 1968 and served overseas during the Vietnam War in Turkey. He married the love of his life on July 6, 1968 while on weekend leave and then finished his time of service. Upon his return, he continued his career at Southwestern Bell and worked there for 35 years.

He will be remembered as a loving, Godly husband, father, grandfather and friend. He loved classic Hollywood movies, 50's and 60's rock and roll and was the biggest fan of Roy Rogers and John Wayne. His daily diet included Dr. Pepper, cookies and a heaping spoonful of chocolate chip cookie dough everytime Vicki made them (which was quite often, especially when the grandkids were coming over). He loved working in their yard, watching the Astros and attending his grandkids' activities over the years.

A faithful servant in every church that he attended, he was ordained as a deacon in 2001 and remained a deacon at Second Baptist until his death. Over the years he taught Sunday School, sang in the church choir, served on various church committees and worked in the food service department at Second for 10+ years.

He is preceded in death by his parents S.A and Wanda Denton, who built the foundation of faith that Allen built his own family upon. He is survived by his bride of 55 years, Vicki Denton, daughter Christi Hairston and husband Jason of Johnson City, Texas, son Scott Denton and wife Amy of Sugar Land, Texas, 6 grandkids Jacob, Emma Grace, Julia, Scottie, Ella and Zoey. He is also survived by sister Linda Weatherly and husband Jerry of Houston, sister Cheryl Putnam of Woodstock, Georgia and numerous nieces, nephews and countless friends.

Public viewing will be held at Darst Funeral Home located at 796 Russell Palmer Rd in Kingwood, Texas on Tuesday, April 9 from 5-7 PM. Memorial service will be held at Second Baptist Church, North Campus on Wednesday, April 10 at 11am in the worship center.
