Anne Wethington
Akers
Aug 29, 1946 — Nov 1, 2026
Anne Wethington Akers, 80, of Kingwood Texas, passed away, Sunday, November 1, 2026, at HCA Kingwood Hospital. She was born August 29, 1946, in Lebanon, Indiana; daughter of the late Grover and Mabel (Sutherlin) Wethington.
In addition to her parent, she was preceded in death by her husband George, October 29, 1992, her sister, Bettie (Mackall) Snyder. Survivors include her brother James Mackall, sister Linda Wethington and nieces and nephews.
Born and raised in Indiana, she attended grade school in Danville, Indiana and they moved to North Salem Indiana, and graduated from North Salem High School with the class of 1964. She loved her classmates. On December 17, 1966, she married her Marine, George W. Akers. They immediately moved to Camp Lejeune North Carolina, where he retired from the Marine Corp. After his retirement they moved to Houston, Texas, where George was from. She was initiated into the Akers clan. 8 brothers and sisters-in-law, all are gone now except for one sister-in law, Lillian Akers, but there are hundreds (it seems like) 1st, 2nd and 3rd generations of nieces and nephews. She loved them all.
She enjoyed playing cards, not always a good sport, she could suck the air out of the room when she lost but mellowed some with age. Just ask the people she played with. And then her Pokeno parties, the world stopped on the 1st Monday and 2nd Tuesday of each month. Everything had to be scheduled around the game. She loved the ladies she played with for the last 35 years.
Anne loved to be around people and never met a stranger; she could and would talk to anyone.
The last line of the song The Way We Were goes, "but it's the laughter we will remember whenever we remember the way we were". That is Anne!
