Obituary

Anthony (Tony) Balasso was born on January 26, 1938, in Newark, New Jersey, to parents Marshall and Madeline Fiori Balasso. He passed away on September 25, 2023 in Kingwood, Texas.

Tony graduated from St. Peter's Prep in Jersey City, NJ, and attended St. Peter's College in Jersey City for two years. At that point his family moved to Florida, and Tony finished his college education at the University of Florida with a B.A. Degree majoring in History.

Tony proudly served his country in the United States Army and received a Good Conduct Medal and the Fort Lewis Certificate of Achievement for Outstanding Performance of Duty. Upon completion of his service in the Army, he attended Stetson University College of Law in St. Petersburg, Florida, earning a J.D. Degree in 1966. Tony practiced law in Clearwater and Fort Lauderdale for 34 years. He was a 50-year member of The Florida Bar Association. He was involved in the general practice of Law with emphasis on real estate, banking, municipal law, corporate and commercial transactions. This included extensive commercial litigation. He also engaged in the practice of insurance defense, and engaged in civil litigation in all Florida Courts as well as Federal District Court.

Tony was a member of the Knights of Columbus (3rd Degree) for many years, Phi Delta Phi International Legal Fraternity, Who's Who in the South and Southwest, and numerous other professional organizations.

Tony liked having a good time and laughed often. He especially loved trivia. He always carried a packet of notes with bits and pieces of history and news which he shared with family and friends. He took care of his parents who lived close by in Ft. Lauderdale. He took them out to dinner, to doctor's appointments and visited them often. After his father died in 1985, his mother moved in with him. Upon his retirement in 2000, he and his mother moved to Las Vegas, NV. The last years of her life, his mother resided in a nursing home, and he visited her nearly every day.

In 2015, he moved to Kingwood to live closer to his sister and family. He was a devout Catholic and member of St. Martha Catholic Church.

Tony was never married. He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Angela and John Wemyss of Kingwood, TX; his nephews and their spouses - Drew and Christie Wemyss of Kingwood, TX; Charlie and Kristen Wemyss of Missouri City, TX; one great niece, Addie Wemyss; and five great nephews, Matthew, Braden, Austin, Tanner and Reid Wemyss; along with many cousins, relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions may be made in Tonys name to your favorite charity or to the St. Martha Catholic Church Capital Campaign.
