In Loving Memory of Scooter Appleton Alfred Reuel "Scooter" Appleton, was born September 13, 1941 in Houston, Texas to parents Alfred & Louise Appleton. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Sharon K. Appleton, son Michael & wife Julia Appleton, daughter Jodi & husband Kevin Curry. Grandchildren Shelby, Hallie, Katelyn, Miyah, Adam, Logan and Kristen who all lovingly called him "Poppy". Sister Jenni Appleton, Uncle Jim Brown & wife Antonette, many nieces, nephews & cousins. Scooter is also survived by a great host of family and friends who will all truly miss him. Scooter was preceded in death by his parents Alfred and Louise Appleton, brother Michael P. Appleton, Uncle Louis & Ida Brown. Scooter was raised in Denver Harbor and graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in Houston, TX in 1960. He served time in the Army before going to work at Trans Western Pipeline. He had different job ventures before he met the love of his life Sharon thru mutual friends and they were married on August 22, 1975. The "cowboy" and the "flight attendant", what a match that led to a very eventful life! He went on to work at Superior Trucks, Stelzigs Saddlery, before opening his own saddle shop, "Double A Saddle Shop" making custom saddles and western wear and finally retiring from Houston Independent School District. As we all know, his last job before leaving this earth was working daylight to dark on Lamar Lane where he loved to mow grassy pastures, was always helping Sharon with all of her "Honey Dos" and always ready and willing to lend a helping hand to a neighbor, friend, kid or grandkid. From his youth Scooter loved animals, especially horses. Everything from bull riding, bare back riding, and calf roping, he tried it all. He made the circuit from Circle 8 to other local area rodeos. He decided after a bull stepped on his knee that he would stick to roping. Scooters love for animals, especially horses, landed him a lifetime membership with Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. He spent many years serving on the "Horsepitality" Committee and Calf Scramble Committee. He taught all of the neighborhood boys how to rope and ride! On any given day you could go to Scooters roping pen and you would find him helping his grandchildren take care of an animal. Under the gruff exterior, was a kind and loving man who offered to work in the community, such as working with the FFA, on the Water Board and serving at First Baptist Church Porter for the past 14 years where he loved attending Sunday School, Church and many church activities.
