Barbara Jean Isom, also known as "Barbie" to some, was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, friend and mother-in-law. Barbara loved and cherished her family but most importantly she was beyond proud of her family. She slipped peacefully from this world on June 26, 2024, at her home in Porter, surrounded by her loving family, after a courageous battle with Cancer.

Barbara was born on February 14,1950, in Baltimore, Maryland, to parents, William and Mary Dippo. They moved many times throughout her childhood because of her dad being in the Army but their family of 7 finally settled down in Windcrest (San Antonio) and she graduated from Theodore Roosevelt High School in 1968.

Barbara met Frank Isom in 1967 while she was still in high school. Frank spotted her from a distance sitting on the back of a friend's 55 Chevy. She was wearing a yellow polka dot bathing suit and Frank said that right then and there he knew that she was the girl for him. They got married on January 31, 1970, in San Antonio. They were inseparable for 57 years.

Barbara was a pillar of faith. Her strong belief in God brought comfort to those around her, especially in times of difficulty. We find solace knowing that she is now in the embrace of her Lord and Savior. She had a prayer chair in her house where she spent her morning quiet time reading her daily devotionals and studying the Bible. Sometimes when the weather was nice, she would do her quiet time on the porch looking out on their little slice of heaven they called home. Barbara had 8 Bibles all with frayed edges and dog-eared pages containing handwritten notes and comments throughout them all.

Barbara was a faithful member of St. Martha's Church by serving where she was most needed. She had a beautiful servant heart and was a prayer warrior for any and everyone who asked her to pray. Barbara always saw the good in people and was always ready to listen and advise without judgement. In addition to attending Mass regularly, she participated in numerous bible studies, A.C.T.S. retreats, Bible Study Fellowship classes and loved attending the Walk to Emmaus.

Barbara and Frank loved to travel. They have had multiple RVs and traveled all across this country with family and friends. They belonged to Go Lucky Sams RV club for over 15 years which brought them so much joy. Some of their travel companions included her parents, Frank's sister Carolyn and her husband Earl Crawford, and Ken and Bernice Hanson.

Barbara and Frank also used to travel by motorcycle. Her sister Ann lives in Germany so Barbara and Frank would go visit Ann and her late husband Norbert and tour Europe on motorcycles. They traveled over 8,000 miles through various countries in Europe.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents Major William (Bill) Dippo Jr. and Mary (Black) Dippo, niece Michelle Dippo and Nephew Will Brooksbank, Sister-in-law Carol Dippo and Brother-in-law Norbert Siep.

She is survived by her loving husband Frank, their three children and their spouses: Cheri Grebe (Toby), Billy Isom (Holly) and Christa Griffith (Reagan). She is also survived by six grandchildren: Cassie and Rachel Huber, Aubrey Isom, Lyle, Harper and Ruby Griffith. She is also survived by her four siblings, Bill Dippo, Michael Dippo (Rhonda), Ann Siep, and Mary Brooksbank (Kenn) and Frank's sister, Carolyn Crawford (Earl) plus numerous nieces and nephews.

While Barbara is not present in her earthly body, she has exchanged it for a perfect heavenly body free of pain and suffering. She will still be missed, especially during family gatherings and the holiday season, but memories of her will live on in our hearts until we meet again.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Holocaust Remembrance Garden of Hope. A bench will be dedicated in the name of Barbara's father who played a huge role in liberating the infamous Mauthausen Concentration Camp in Austria.
