Celebrating the life of Bertha Tomotaki.

Born on June 28, 1941, in Lima, Peru, where she lived until 1974. Her parents were Maria Rosa and Juan Toyofuku. She was the 2nd of 4 children.

She lived in Lince, Paramonga, Cartavio, Lima (all the cities in Peru); Mexico City, Mexico, and Ribeirão Preto, Brazil. In the United States, she lived in Dallas, Houston, Akron, Atlanta, Albany, and finally spent her last 18 years in Humble, Texas.

She was married to Luis Tomotaki on August 15th, 1965, in Lima, Peru.

Bertha was affectionately known as Betty, Mami, Mamita, and Abuelita. She loved her family more than she loved herself. Without hesitation, she gave everything to her family unconditionally. With her loving husband, Luis, they left their beloved Peru and sought better lives for themselves, their children, and their grandchildren. They travelled to 3 different countries, learning 3 different languages and cultures.

Betty was able to relay her love to each family member or friend uniquely in a way that could only be done by her. She had an eye for beauty, whether in people, plants, flowers, or fashion. She was shy, but if you were lucky enough to be caught by her, you felt special, worthy, and truly seen. She had magical hands, so anything she made with them became a family treasure, including the hundreds of dishes she cooked, the numerous sweaters, tablecloths, bedspreads, and decorative pieces she knitted or crocheted.

Betty left a beautiful legacy. With her very last breath, she stuck to her values, her dignity, and who she was unapologetically. She may have been timid and small, but she was also loving, talented, tenacious, determined, intelligent, and beautiful. She will never be forgotten.

A funeral mass will be held for Bertha at St. Martha Catholic Church, 4301 Woodridge Pkwy, Porter, TX 77365, on January 15, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers to the family, please consider making a donation to the Alzheimer's Association or see link below for planting a tree in her memory.
