Carl Marcellus
Sims
Sep 29, 2012 — Aug 2, 2023
Carl Marcellus Sims died Wednesday, August 2, 2023 with his loving wife by his side. Carl was born to Carl W. Sims and Alberta E. (Anderson) Sims on March 9, 1968. Carl was born in Washington, D.C. and spent his formative years in Chicago, IL and Minneapolis, MN.
As a youngster, Carl excelled in a variety of sports including football, baseball, and basketball. In addition to sports, Carl developed a love of cars and motorcycles. After graduating high school, Carl entered the workforce and continued his studies. His entrepreneurial inclinations and strong work ethic allowed him to pursue many career opportunities, eventually leading to the start of his own business. Later in life, Carl completed college, graduating with honors with a degree in criminal justice and became CFE, Certified Fraud Examiner. This accomplishment was something he was very proud of and allowed him to pursue a career in Fraud Analysis.
After moving to Houston, TX, he met and married the love of his life, Alisa Dumas on September 29, 2012. The two enjoyed traveling, sporting events, and discovering new places to eat. While Carl often missed the taste of home; a Chicago deep dish, Vienna beef, and especially his mother's home cooking, he loved riding his Harley to Austin for BBQ at Stubbs. Carl was a loyal Cubs fan but the Astros stole his heart. He was thankful to have been able to attend the Astros season opener against the Chicago White Sox. Many Sundays were spent with the best mother-in-law a man could ask for, "in his own words", watching his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers and her Dallas Cowboys. Carl was a skilled marksman and loved working with his hands; from building shelves, to working on his Harley or Mustang, and even building a custom doggie bed for Kirby. When he put his mind to it, there wasn't anything that he couldn't do.
On August 2, Carl was called home. He was preceded in death by his mother, Alberta Smith, stepfather, John Smith, and father, Carl W. Sims.
Carl leaves to cherish his loving wife, Alisa Sims; his siblings; Phillip Smith, Jack Smith, Dana Murray, David Downie, and Scott Downie; stepmother, Bonnie Sims, mother-in-law, Vera Dumas, brother-in law, Sean Dumas, father-in-law, Lee Dumas, a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and their beloved mini-schnauzer Kirby.
