It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Danny Paul Buchan, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Danny passed away in his home surrounded by his loving family, leaving behind a legacy defined by his unwavering commitment to his family.

Dan was born on June 13, 1946 in Wichita, Kansas, to Douglas and Mary Ellen (Plummer) Buchan. As a young boy, he served as an altar boy in his church. He enlisted in the United States Navy at the young age of 17, demonstrating his courage and sense of adventure and duty to serve his country.

After his service, Dan enrolled at Wichita State University under the GI Bill and earned a bachelor's degree in marketing and journalism. It was in Wichita that he met the love of his life, Jan, and the two exchanged nuptials on June 3, 1972. Their journey together began in the chilly north with Dan working in advertising and marketing with Lord Corporation in Erie, Pennsylvania where they celebrated the birth of their two sons, Kyle and Kris. Their desire for warmer weather led them to San Antonio, where they lovingly raised their family.

Dan was a man of many talents and interests. He started a successful printing business and became deeply involved in his sons' soccer activities. Despite growing up around baseball diamonds and his unfamiliarity with international "football", Dan's determination to support his sons led him to learn and coach the game of soccer. He rented books and VHS tapes from the library, studied rules and strategies, and even earned his D coaching license from US Soccer. His dedication paid off as his team traveled across the country, placing in prestigious tournaments such as the Dallas Cup and the Colorado Friendship Cup. Notably, Dan's team was one of the few remaining American teams to place in the Dallas Cup.

Known for his sharp mind and eloquence, Dan could strike up a conversation with anyone with his welcoming personality and genuine desire to connect with people. An avid golfer, he achieved the remarkable feat of a hole-in-one at Olmos Basin Golf Course in San Antonio. Dan and Jan shared a love for swing and jitterbug dancing, a passion that they enjoyed throughout their relationship. Their love and dedication to each other were evident to all who knew them.

In the last chapter of his life, Dan found immense joy in watching his sons and grandsons play soccer. He was a master of trivia knowledge and enjoyed spirited games of chess and poker with friends and family and cherished teaching his grandchildren to enjoy these pastimes as well. He loved engaging in deep conversations and debates with his grandchildren and encouraged them to explore new thoughts and ideas, fostering a sense of curiosity and critical thinking in each of them.

Dan is preceded in death by his parents and his sister Geri and her husband Ron. He is survived by his brother Doug and his wife Beth, his devoted wife Jan, his two sons Kyle and his wife Marie, Kris and his wife Melissa, and his five beloved grandchildren.

Dan's memory will forever be cherished by his family and friends. A private memorial service will be held to honor his life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Hospice Foundation of America (www.hospicefoundation.org) in Dan's memory.
