David Lee Dodson, age 91, of Humble, Texas, passed away Saturday morning, July 4, 2026, at Memorial Herman Northeast Hospital. He was born September 29, 1934, in Rockingham County, North Carolina, son of the late William Tyre and Emma Louise Dodson.
He was raised in Wentworth, North Carolina, and graduated from Wentworth High School in 1952. After high school, he joined the National Guard of North Carolina in 1953 and served 6 years as a wheeled vehicle mechanic. During this time, he married his first wife, Alice Marie, and later welcomed his son David Lee Dodson Jr. on July 28, 1957. David worked as the general manager for the local country store until he moved to Florida in 1960. He joined TRW as a maintenance supervisor managing projects for the aerospace industry. His work with TRW eventually led him to Houston, Texas, in 1968. Soon after their transfer to Texas, his wife Alice Marie passed away from cancer.
David continued working at TRW and soon met his second wife, Barbara. They were married on October 4, 1969, and resided in Deer Park, Texas, with David Lee Jr. In August of 1970, they welcomed their daughter, Kimberly Elizabeth.
David kept himself busy with work at TRW and also started a lawn care business. He left TRW in 1976 and began working for Pepsi Cola bottling company. He started in the product line maintenance and quickly moved to the fleet manager for the local plant. By his retirement in 2002, he managed the fleet maintenance for the Central Texas area.
Work was definitely a part of David's daily life, but the church and its mission were very central to his life. He served as a song leader, choir member, Sunday school teacher, and much more. Even as he entered into his last days, he was still teaching and leading others in the truth of God's Word. David was a man of great faith, who loved the Lord, and served his church family well.
Dave and Barbara built a home in Huffman, Texas, in 2002 and resided there until 2023. They enjoyed gardening, time on the back porch, and watching the deer.
David was preceded in death by his parents, William Tyre and Emma Louise; first wife Alice Marie; second wife Barbara Jean; sister Irene Schechter; son David Lee Dodson Jr.; and grandson Joshua Dodson.
David Lee Dodson is survived by his daughter Kimberly Elizabeth Frasier and her husband John M. Frasier, and three granddaughters: Madison Elizabeth Frasier, Abigail Elaine Fanara, and Emily Annelise Frasier; and sister Hilda Bye and brother Daniel Dodson. He also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss him.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 29, 2026 at Houston Northeast Church.
