Obituary for David Allan Livingston

Our beloved husband, father and "Papa" left us all too soon after a courageous and hard-fought battle with cancer. David Allan Livingston (77) passed away February 25, 2024, at home, surrounded by family.

Born February 23, 1947, in Pittsburgh, Pa, Dave lived a life filled with love, family, and adventure. A star football player at Brentwood High School, Dave was elected President of his Senior Class. In Adrian, Michigan, Dave attended Adrian College. It was there that he met the love of his life, Diane Messervey. They were married on August 23,1969 in the chapel at the college. One could easily say it was love at first sight and since then, they have been inseparable.

After graduation, the happy couple made their way to Texas courtesy of Uncle Sam. Dave enlisted in the U.S. Army and was assigned to the First Cavalry Division at Ford Hood, Texas, where he proudly served from 1970-1972. After his military service, Dave attended South Texas College of Law, graduating 3rd in his class. The family moved to Kingwood in 1977, finding it the perfect place to raise their children, Kristin and Scott.

Dave's law career spanned 40 years as a trial attorney primarily defending medical malpractice cases. He was board certified in Personal Injury Trial Law. He successfully tried over 100 cases and at the time of his retirement was the Senior Partner at his firm, Livingston and Miller P.C.

Beyond his professional achievements, Dave loved sailing, playing golf, spending summers in Colorado and serving as Chairman to the Lake Houston Musical Arts Society, where he sang bass in the Chorale. Being on a boat, any kind of boat, was one of Dave's greatest joys, and together with Diane, they spent over 4 decades making time to sail in and around the Texas Gulf Coast, Florida, and the Caribbean, including one 5-month trip from Kemah, Texas to the Berry Islands in the Bahamas. Golf also held a special place in Dave's heart. His one and only hole-in-one was proudly made with his dad and brother at his side. Summer in Colorado was family time. For over 30 years, Dave and Diane made Vail their home and looked forward to their children and grandchildren spending their summers there. Our time included golf, hiking, concerts and great meals at "Dave's Backyard Caf". Dave had a special way of making every moment count and creating memories that will last a lifetime!

In 1988, the Kingwood Musical Arts Society was founded with Dave serving as legal counsel and board member. He became Chairman of the Board and proudly served over 30 years.

Dave is survived by his loving wife, Diane; his children, Kristin Abrahams and husband Paul; Scott and wife Karina Livingston, and four grandchildren: Anna, Asher and Elli Abrahams, and Isabela Livingston.

A memorial service for Dave will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Kingwood on March 23rd at 11:00. A reception follows in the church's Fellowship Hall, 5520 Kingwood Drive, Kingwood, Texas 77345.

As a commitment to the arts in the Kingwood area, an endowed music scholarship in the name of David A. Livingston and Diane L. Livingston is being set up by the Lake Houston Musical Arts Society in partnership with the Lone Star College Foundation.
