Dennis Samuel
Hanovich
Dec 3, 1947 — Jun 25, 2024
Dennis Samuel Hanovich, a proud Houstonian, was born on Dec 3,1947 to Sarah and Joe Hanovich (owner of Hanovich Bread) at St Joseph's Hospital in Houston.
He attended Pershing Middle School and Bellaire High School and was a championship bowler. He then went on to graduate from the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Science degree in Radio, Tv and Film.
He began his career at KTRK in Houston before departing for CBS news in New York in his early 20's. After his career took him to Denver, he returned to Houston where he retired, married Alice Horowitz Hanovich, and moved to Kingwood TX in 2005. They were married for 19 years.
Anyone who met Dennis never forgot him. He was generous, kind, and funny. He loved animals, and his friends and family dearly. He never hesitated to help anyone. He spoke out against injustice often. He was a proud Jew, an avid Astros fan and a vocal Democrat. He loved cruising, good food, cigars, and Scotch.
He treated Alice's only child, Cynthia Cantrell, and her husband, Daniel like his own children, and their sons Zachary and Kyle like his own grandchildren. There was nothing he would not do for them. He loved Kyle and Zach Cantrell and bragged about them to anyone who would listen. He was so proud of the Cantrell family.
Dennis died on June 25, 2024.
He was a fine man who will be missed but never forgotten.
If so desired, donations may be sent in his memory to Special Pals, a non-kill animal shelter in Houston Texas, at www.specialpals.org
