Obituary

Donald Hugh Harbour, Sr., age 87, was born in Camden, Arkansas on December 22, 1937, to Whitson Coleman Harbour and Theler Waddell Harbour. He passed away at home in Kingwood, Texas on February 28, 2025. A devoted husband, loving father, adored grandfather and caring great-grandfather, Don will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Don was preceded in death by his wife of 64+ years, Janet Hudson Harbour; his parents; his twin brother Ronald Lee Harbour, who died at birth, and his brothers Wayne Harbour of Hattiesburg, Mississippi and Jack Harbour of Marion, Arkansas. He is survived by his children Donald Harbour, Jr., Beth Stafford, and Jennifer Harbour; grandchildren Jojo Trumbly (Jehu), Delaney Stafford, Hudson Foyle, Audrey Foyle, and Sophia Harbour; and great-grandchild Stella Trumbly, as well as various nephews and nieces. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Betty Jo Harbour of Hattiesburg, Mississippi; Pam Harbour of Tupelo, Mississippi; and Betty Saxon of Houston.

Don spent his childhood years in northeast Arkansas, graduating from West Memphis High School in 1955. He was awarded a scholarship and played clarinet in the Ole Miss Marching band, Concert Band, and the Air Force ROTC band. He graduated from Ole Miss in 1959 with a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree with a double major in Accounting and Economics.

Following graduation, Don married Janet, his high school sweetheart, and they moved to Houston to start his career in public accounting as an auditor with Arthur Andersen & Co. He Joined Brown & Root in 1963 and moved through the ranks, serving in various capacities over his 32-year tenure until his retirement in 1995. This included a transfer to Mexico City in 1980 to manage Brown & Root's joint ventures involved in the engineering, fabrication and installation of offshore installations/platforms for Pemex in the Gulf of Mexico. After retirement, Don and Janet were active in the Brown & Root Retirees Association.

Don enjoyed golf (but he enjoyed being outside with his golf buddies more than playing golf), bird hunting (dove, quail, and pheasants) and deer hunting. He particularly enjoyed travelling with Janet throughout the United States and Europe after both retired. His favorite places to travel included Italy, France, and Mexico. He and Janet preferred a loose travel itinerary so they could explore new areas and enjoy local cultures and people. He also enjoyed spending time with family, being involved in his children's activities and watching his grandchildren participate in their various school activities. Other hobbies included playing with his dog Bella, spending time with friends, baking pies, and eating Mexican food.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at Darst Funeral Home, 700 Russell Palmer Rd, Kingwood, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you contribute to the Ole Miss Patterson School of Accountancy or the charity of your choice in his memory.
