Obituary

Estella C. Castillo was born on December 14th, 1935 in San Antonio, TX. She lived in Campbellton, TX with her family until they moved to San Antonio in 1952. Her parents were Eustaquio Contreras and Rosa Rosales Contreras, and she was the third of six children. Estella attended Campbellton Elementary, Three Rivers High School and Pleasanton High. Estella did not have the opportunity to graduate from high school. However, she began a career in retail at S. H. Kress department store in downtown San Antonio and eventually went to work for the San Antonio Water Board for many years. She also taught preschool, worked as the secretary at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Houston, TX and for Foley's department store. She eventually worked for JC Penney's in St. Petersburg, FL for many years, and retired from there in 2003. After retirement, Estella was involved in supporting her family. Especially, her granddaughter. Estella lived in various towns and cities throughout her life (Campbellton, TX, San Antonio, TX, Houston, TX, Clearwater, FL and Kingwood, TX), and her favorite place was always with her husband. She married Roberto Castillo on December 11th, 1964 at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church in San Antonio, TX. Estella was a parishioner of St. Lawrence/St. Leo Catholic Church in San Antonio and St. Benedict/St. Mark Catholic Church in Houston, TX, St. Martha Catholic Church in Kingwood, TX and Sacred Heart Catholic Church in St. Petersburg, FL. Estella was a constant reminder of the power of love and faith in God. She served as a volunteer at the various churches she as a parishioner. Estella's dearest friends were Anne Trevino, Mary Anne Holdiman, Linda Delgado, Eva & Pete Linster and Melissa Lopez. Estella was the Princess of the Stars. The most significant events in Estella's life were the loss of her infant son, her daughters' graduation, present at the birth of her granddaughter, and granddaughters' graduations from high school and college. Estella loved spending time with her family, traveling with her husband, trying new restaurants, and cooking-especially her famous Tex-Mex enchiladas and homemade potato salad. She loved to listen to music by Elvis Presly, Tejano music and songs of praise and worship. There will be a rosary and mass at St. John of the Cross in New Caney, TX on Thursday, September 28th at 5:00 p.m. and a celebration of Estella's life immediately following at the family home. Estella's ashes will be place in the grave of her infant son.

Estella is preceded in death by her infant son Roberto Castillo II, her parents Eustaquio and Rosa (Rosales) Contreras, sisters Alice (Contreras) Rodriquez and Carolyn (Contreras) Garcia, brothers Henry and George Contreras and her in-laws Candido G & Candelaria M. Castillo.

Estella is survived by her husband Roberto Castillo, daughter Maryhelen Therese Castillo, son-in-law George Caldwell, granddaughter Justice Castillo Caldwell, sister Rosie (Contreras) Conway, and an abundance of friends, cousins, nieces and nephews.
