Freda Monk, of Kingwood, Texas, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2026 at the age of 81.
Freda is survived by her nephew, Kevin Dunham of Blackpool, England, Sue Petruno (Jim) of Coatesville, PA, John Vurpillat (Jane) of Crown Point, IN and Jim Vurpillat (Deb) of Grosse Pointe Farms, MI., 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren as well as beloved friend and companion, Ken Oliger. She is preceded in death by loved ones who now welcome her into eternal peace; her husband, Raymond Vurpillat, Jr., her mother, Agnes Williams and her brother, Bill Dunham.
Freda was born on April 20, 1945, in Oldham, Chadderton, England. She grew up on a farm in the beautiful countryside of Manchester before emigrating to the United States in 1963, where she worked as an au pair in Miami and New York. She later discovered her talent for meeting planning and went on to work for General Dynamics in St. Louis, MO, and Sterling Heights, MI, and for Pizza Hut/PepsiCo in Wichita, KS. In 1992, she opened her own business, Meeting and Events Management, in Humble, TX.
Freda lived a life defined by faith, kindness, strength, and compassion. She was known for her warm heart, gentle spirit, and her ability to make everyone feel welcome. Through her faith, her friendships, her devotion to family, and her involvement in the community, Freda touched countless lives. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 31, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Darst Funeral Home (700 Russell Palmer Road, Kingwood, TX). The Recitation of the Rosary will take place at 4:00 p.m.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, June 1, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church (527 South Houston Avenue, Humble, TX). Visitation at the church will begin at 10:00 a.m. and continue until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages acts of kindness and remembrance in Freda's honor be made to St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church or the Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation, (www.tpwf.org; select "Donate," choose "Honor or Memorial Gift," and list the Tribute Type as "In Memory of Freda Monk").
