Gene Richard Peterson, the beloved voice of the Houston Rockets and a cherished family man, passed away on July 24, 2024, at the age of 83. Gene was a prominent sports broadcaster, known for his iconic role as the voice of the Houston Rockets from 1975 to 2008. His passionate commentary and unwavering dedication to the team made him a legendary figure in sports broadcasting.

An avid golfer and an ardent supporter of the Houston Rockets, Gene found immense joy in his favorite sports. In his later years, he was a devoted fan of the Houston Astros, rarely missing a game and always cheering from his living room.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Aage and Rose Peterson, His sisters Loraine and Mavis, and his brother Paul

Gene is survived by his loving wife, Marsha, and their three children: Todd and his wife Suzie, Jennifer and her husband Michael, and Paul and his wife KC. He also leaves behind seven adoring grandchildren: Jacob, Grayce, JD, Jack, Katie, Gavin, and Sam and his sister Shirley.

A celebration of Gene's remarkable life will be held on Friday, August 2nd, at 2:30 p.m.at Second Baptist North Campus. Friends, family, and all who knew him are invited to gather and honor his memory.

Gene's legacy of enthusiasm, dedication, and love for his family and sports will be fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
