Obituary

Gordon Thomas (Tom) Stoltz passed away peacefully after a 3-month long illness. Born in Sheffield, Alabama on July 6, 1944 to Gordon Edison Stoltz and Corrie Eloise Stoltz, he spent his early childhood in idyllic surroundings in Sheffield, where his dad worked for TVA. Gordon, a chemical engineer, later got a job with Phillips Petroleum and the family moved to Pasadena TX. Tom enjoyed spending time with his family at First Presbyterian Church of Pasadena and participating in (golf and baseball) and watching sports, especially the Astros. During his childhood in Sheffield and Pasadena, children could feel safe playing and roaming the area. He attended Pasadena ISD schools and graduated from South Houston High School where he was a member of the golf team.

In 1965 Tom married Kathy Carter, and during 58-year marriage, they reared 2 boys, Alan Troy and Travis Wade Stoltz. Tom worked for many years in banking at Pasadena State Bank and Channelview Bank and then sales for Cummins Diesel. After a long career in sales, he retired and devoted his time to activities such as serving on the Woodland Hills Trails Board, on which he served for 30+ years. Much of that time he led as President of the Board. On November 13, 2021, a Woodland Hills park was named for him.

Tom loved his children, Troy and Travis Stoltz, and took them on some wonderful camping adventures and vacations. The family started out as novice campers and hikers, which caused some interesting happenings, but Tom became skilled at setting up tents, cooking on camping stoves, etc. Tom was a proficient "Shade Tree Mechanic" and natural tinkerer, often completing projects around the house. He enjoyed good health until strokes became his nemesis about the time COVID began.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Eloise Stoltz, and his brother, Alan K. Stoltz.

He is survived by his wife, Kathryn Carter Stoltz, his sons, Troy and Travis Stoltz, his brother, Bill Stoltz and wife Jeanette, his sister-in-law, Elizabeth Stoltz, granddaughters, Hannah, Tatum, Edie, and Maggie Stoltz, and by cousins, nieces, and nephews and their children. He will be sorely missed.
