Gretchen Ann (Yost) Haught ended a long battle with cancer on Thursday, September 7, 2023 at her home in Kingwood, TX at the age of 76.

Gretchen was born on September 21st, 1946, in Fairmont, West Virginia to Woodrow W. Yost and Anna Krevosky Yost, the third of five children. She lost her mother at the early age of seven to cancer but was lucky enough to have another wonderful woman, Kathryn Hudson Yost, enter her life as her stepmother. She grew up in Grant Town, WV where she attended grade school. She attended Fairview High School and graduated co-salutatorian.

Gretchen attended Fairmont State for two years before finishing her Bachelor's of Science in Secondary Education at West Virginia University. She later earned her Master's Degree in Secondary Education at Jacksonville State University in Alabama.

After graduation, she taught mathematics at Morgantown Middle School in Morgantown, WV, high school English at The Donoho School in Anniston, AL, and mathematics again at Westfield High School in Spring, TX. Gretchen taught for more than 25 years before retiring in 2006.

During her lifetime, Gretchen enjoyed many hobbies. She dabbled in several crafts, including ceramics, needlework, sewing, and flower arranging. She enjoyed cooking for family and friends, especially with a group of fellow gourmands. She played bridge for many years with local bridge groups. She and her husband, Gary, enjoyed playing tennis and golf together and she was a regular golfer at the Kingwood Country Club.

Family was the most important thing in Gretchen's life. She leaves behind her husband of 57 years, Gary L. Haught, her three daughters, Courtney Haught (Byron Lawson), Emily Haught (Dan Clotfelter), and Cecily Haught (Drake Henderson), and her four grandchildren, Matthew Lawson, Wyatt Henderson, Carter Lawson, and Kate Henderson. She is also survived by her three brothers, George (Karen) Yost, Fielding (Carolyn) Yost, and Robert (Ruthie) Yost, and her sister-in-law, Judith Triplett Yost as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her father, Woodrow W. Yost, her mother, Anna Krevosky Yost, her stepmother, Kathryn Hudson Yost, and her brother, Thomas Bruce Yost. According to her wishes, she will be cremated. There will be no services, but a Celebration of Life will be scheduled later in the fall at the Kingwood Country Club. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to your favorite charity in memory of Gretchen.
