Homer Lee Coon Jr passed away on October 6, 2026, surrounded by loved ones in Kingwood, Tx, at the age of 79. Born in McComb, MS on July 14, 1947, He was the son of Homer L. and Josie Coon. Homer grew up and lived in central Mississippi until 1979 and carried those early lessons throughout his life. He graduated from University of Southern Mississippi with a BA in Management. His careers followed several paths leading him to teaching, banking, and ending in the oil and gas industry. These careers moved him around the world. He moved to Houma, La, Corpus Christi, Tx, and Aberdeen, Scotland. He finished his oil field career in Houston, Tx where he retired in 2008.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Sharon, his 3 sons David Coon (Betsy) Byron Center, MI, Brian Coon (Cameron) Vicksburg, MS, and Jeffery Coon (Jaime) Clinton, MS, and his 2 daughters Kristina Niewald (Mike) Fayetteville, Tx and Suzy Tramel (Branden) Bleiblerville, Tx, his 14 grandkids Ashlyn Shubert (Kaulin), Gabby Lindsay (Austin), Kylie Paskie (Alex), Nikolas Coon, Hannah Coon, Brooke Niewald, Brayden Tramel, Andrew Coon, Payton Feagin, Jase Coon, Jacob Coon, Maggie Coon, Josie Claire Coon, and Sam Coon, his great grandson Weston Lindsay and was eagerly awaiting the arrival of great granddaughter Miley Pearl Paskie in November. His sister Jan Carr (Bill). He was preceded in death by his father Homer L. Coon Sr., his mother Josie Nunnery Coon, and his great granddaughter Hadley Ann Paskie.
Over the years, he built a life centered on family, work ethic, and outdoorsmanship. Homer “Homie” was known for his passion for bass fishing and cooking, He considered himself the BEST cook in his household and his wife agreed. Even after he could no longer go fishing, he followed the major fishing leagues and continued to follow his love of fishing through his laptop. He loved getting the fishing and hunting reports from everyone. He was also known as the weather reporter for all of the family living across the US. He built a legacy focused on family with our annual beach trip, bringing all 26 of the immediate family together under one roof, building a lifetime of memories. He loved his family and talked non-stop about them to anyone that would listen. He was so proud.
Family and friends are invited to gather on October 10, 2026, 10am at Darst Funeral Home in Kingwood, Tx.
