Obituary

Homer Jackson (Jack) Wood was born July 4, 1946 in Rome, Mississippi to John L. and Minnie Tyler Wood. He was always a firecracker.

Jack was a hard worker who built the family business (Wood Alternator) on grit and determination. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing cards with his friends. In his later years he got special pleasure from sitting on the back porch with a cup of coffee in one hand, his phone in the other, with one dog in his lap and two more by his side. Conversations with family and friends often included discussing the latest antics of the goats on the farm. He also loved watching the wildlife, and checking in on his beehives.

Jack never met a stranger he couldn't quickly turn into a friend.

He was also a Friend of Bill W. for over 31 years and proudly helped many others in their journey.

He is survived by his wife Linda Shafer Wood, his children David Wood and Amy Wood, and his beloved grandson Dunya Gomis. He also leaves behind siblings, Donald Wood and Regina Williams, and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 10 siblings and a grandson, James David Wood Jr.

Jack had a serious sweet tooth and loved banana pudding and ice cream. In fact, a nightly ritual included several bowls of ice cream and if the freezer was running low, someone in the family was surely getting a phone call to "bring home more ice cream." We hope that everyone present will join us for lunch following the service and enjoy plenty of ice cream in his honor.
