Irma Jean (Brodie) Payne was born October 14, 1940, in Chicago Illinois to Odie Lee and Eula K (Eldridge) Brodie. Irma relocated to Gary Indiana as a young adult where she met and married Clyde Eugene (Stanley) Gillette. In that union they were blessed with 3 children Margo, Charles and Ingrid. After that union dissolved, Irma was united in marriage with the love of her life, Byron Allen Payne, who loved and cherished her for the last 54 years. In this union they were blessed with their daughter, Heather, whom they both lived with until God called her home.

Irma was a vibrant soul, whose journey began in the professional realm as a secretary. However, in 1959 when her first child was born, she embraced the role of a full-time homemaker with open arms. As she navigated the joys and challenges of motherhood, Irma poured her heart and soul into creating a warm and nurturing home environment for her family. Beyond her domestic duties, Irma was deeply engaged in civic life. Volunteering for campaigns, and advocating for the importance of voting were causes close to her heart.

When it came to her children, Irma took great pride in ensuring they were always cared for; their well-being was her top priority. Whether it was taking them to the doctor or changing their clothes several times a day if they got dirty, her nurturing presence was a constant source of comfort and guidance. One of Irma's favorite pastimes was soaking up the sun at the beach with her family. With sand between their toes and laughter in the air, those moments became cherished memories that would last a lifetime.

Irma was a social butterfly who thrived in the company of others. She found joy in family gatherings, the freedom of dancing, and the thrill of a good card game. These simple pleasures brought her immense joy. Time spent with her siblings was cherished, and each moment was a testament to the deep bonds she held with them all.

Irma's legacy is one of love, laughter, and unwavering devotion to those she held dear. Her presence continues to be felt in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her, a beacon of light guiding them through life's journey.

Irma was truly blessed. She departed her life on June 11, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents Odie Lee and Eula K Brodie; her sisters Alberta Wilmington and Elaine Miller; her grandson Byron Gillette; and 3 brothers Elworth Brodie, Jessie Brodie and Robert Brodie. She completed her journey and will be forever loved and remembered by everyone who knew her.

She leaves precious and cherished memories to her husband Byron Payne of Kingwood TX; daughters Margo Gillette of Houston TX, Ingrid (Kevin) Richardson of Douglasville GA, Heather (Fredrick) Washington of Kingwood Tx and a son Charles Gillette of Porter TX; Two sisters Ida (Karen) Gillis and Anita (Johnnie) Holland and a brother Cordia Brodie; as well as 2 sister in-laws Bea and Judy Brodie all of Gary, IN; 7 Grandchildren, 11 Great Grandchildren and a host nieces and nephews.
