Mr. James Earnest Bridgeman, 85, passed away on January 31, 2026, in Humble, Texas. Born on December 4, 1940, in Corpus Christi, Texas, James lived a full and spirited life marked by dedication to family, service to his country, and a deep appreciation for laughter and the outdoors.

James was the son of James Gordon Bridgeman and Mary Louise Bridgeman. He grew up in South Texas with his brother Bobby Bridgeman and sister Bonnie Stewart.

James is preceded in death by James Gordon, Mary Louise, Bobby, Bonnie, and his son Michael Allen Bridgeman age 9.

From an early age, James showed a strong work ethic and a mischievous charm that would become hallmarks of his personality. At just six years old, he delivered newspapers to the very first Whataburger. The owner often rewarded him with a hamburger and words of encouragement about the value of hard work—lessons James carried with him throughout his life.

He proudly served in the United States Army and will be laid to rest at the Veterans National Cemetery in Houston, honoring his commitment to his country.

James was known for his love of all things outdoors and his playful spirit. He had a knack for telling jokes and bringing joy to those around him. Whether hunting and fishing or sharing a laugh, he embraced life with enthusiasm and heart. He worked hard throughout his life but always made time to enjoy its pleasures—often playing just as hard as he labored.

He leaves behind a loving family who will cherish his memory: daughter Mello Buchanan; son Jay D Bridgeman; daughter-in-law Vickie Bridgeman; step-son Mariano Mary; grandchildren and spouses, Melinda & Brandon Burkman, Michael & Becca Holley, Joshua & Dana Holley, Perry Holley & Pete Hoang, Kaitlyn Buchanan & Logan Cady; great-grandchildren Emma and Izzie Holley; Grayson Mechell-VanGordon; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews.

James's legacy lives on through the stories shared by those who knew him best—tales of fishing and hunting trips, hearty laughter around the table, and lessons learned from a man who valued both grit and good humor.
