In Loving Memory of Janice Faye Mangum

Janice Faye Mangum, born June 5, 1953, in Amarillo, Texas, passed away peacefully on October 3, 2026, in The Woodlands, Texas, surrounded by her loving family and friends. Known affectionately as Jan, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend whose warmth, selflessness, and infectious smile touched everyone she knew.

Jan attended Texas Women’s University in Denton, Texas, before transferring to the University of Colorado, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing in 1975. Throughout her nursing career, she cared for others in a variety of settings, including serving as a school nurse. She devoted herself to raising her three children before establishing a long career as a nurse paralegal at Scott, Clawater, and Houston, LLP, where she worked from 1999 to 2021. Jan’s greatest joy was her family, especially her grandchildren. She also loved traveling, visiting Disney World, cheering on the Fightin’ Texas Aggies, and spending time with her beloved dog, Kodiak, who brought her so much companionship and joy.

Jan is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Hawkes, and her husband, Greg; her sons, Brian Mangum and his wife, Allyson, and Matt Mangum and his wife, Lindsay; and her brother, David Wilterding, and his wife, Terri. She was the proud “Grammy" of Jennifer and Greg’s children, Lila and Lexi; Brian and Allyson’s children, Isabel, Logan, and Everly; and Matt and Lindsay’s children, Asher, Atlas, and Iris.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years and partner in adventures, Jay Mangum; her parents, Elmer “Bill” and Roberta Wilterding; and her granddaughter, Vivian Mangum.

A service celebrating Jan’s life will be held on Sunday, November 1, 2026, at 1:00p.m. at Darst Funeral Home, 796 Russell Palmer Road, Kingwood, Texas 77339. Casual, colorful attire is encouraged in honor of Jan’s vibrant and easy-going spirit.

Jan’s legacy of love, kindness, and selflessness will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Now reunited with her beloved husband, Jay, may she rest in eternal peace.
