Jared Don Jones, 75, of Rowlett, Texas, peacefully went home to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on October 3, 2026, after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. Jared loved Jesus, his family, and music.
Born January 27, 1951, in Dallas, Texas, he was the only child of Thomas “Emrys” Jones, a World War II veteran, and Marjorie Nell Price. He grew up in the Oak Cliff area of Dallas, was raised in the Baptist church, and graduated from the Christian Academy of Oak Cliff. He loved reading in his youth and especially enjoyed Edgar Rice Burroughs’ adventure novels, working his way from Tarzan to John Carter of Mars. He also cherished time with his cousins and scuba diving with his dad while visiting family in Florida. He developed an early love of music, with his dad buying him a drum set that his mom “tolerated” him playing in the living room.
Jared faced difficult years after his father’s early death, followed by his mother’s passing a year later, when he was 17 years old. He moved in with his best friend, Ric Webb, and together they followed their passion for music. Jared wrote songs and played in multiple bands into his early thirties. While this season of life tested him greatly, it ultimately led to an unshakable faith in Jesus.
He later married the love of his life, Audrey Kay Jones, on September 9, 1982. They were married for more than 43 years before her passing in November 2025. In his younger years, he worked as a painter and in home remodeling. He later transitioned into the printing and advertising business, then went into web design. Throughout his life, he continued with his creative work, including writing stories and songs.
Jared read the Bible regularly, quoted Scripture often, and was knowledgeable about biblical history. He was very private, but also a loyal husband and proud father to his sons, Mark, Justin, and James. He cheered them on at the ballfields and was always supportive of their endeavors. He later took great pleasure in passing on his love of music and helping whenever possible with home remodeling projects. He loved spending time with his grandkids. He was known for his dry sense of humor, never passing up an opportunity to offer a witty remark.
Jared lived with Parkinson’s disease for more than 15 years. Despite great physical difficulty in his later years, he dutifully supported and cared for his wife during her own long battle with cancer. While his final year was challenging, he never complained. Until the end, he was talking about Jesus and music.
Jared was preceded in death by his wife, Audrey Kay Jones, and his parents, Thomas Emrys Jones and Marjorie Nell Price. He is survived by his sons: Mark Duvall and his children; Justin Jones, his wife, Crystal, and their children, Jackson, Preston, Avery, Griffin, and Beckett; and James Jones and his significant other, Jade Williams.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 18, 2026, at Day Cemetery in Fairfield, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. The family is deeply grateful to the staff of Dupu Assisted Living and the Horizons Hospice team for the loving and individualized care they gave Jared in his final months.
