Jim Howell
J)
May 19, 1933 — Feb 10, 2024
Jim Howell (Conrad J) was born in Beaumont, Texas on May 19, 1933 and went home to Jesus February 10 at the age of 90. He earned a BS from Lamar University and a MEd from University of Houston (go Coogs). In Houston, Jim served as a High School baseball, basketball, and Jr High football coach and then in various capacities in Administration at North Forest I.S.D for 27 years. He completed his career in education at Sheldon I.S.D. as Deputy Superintendent for 8 years.
Jim was drafted in the Army and all his basic training unit was sent to Germany except Jim. God had other plans for him and sent him to Illinois to meet Phyllis, his wife of 67 years. They shared a life of love, laughter, and adventure. In 1965 Jim got the icing on the cake when he became a father by choice to 2 daughters and guided them to become women of worth. The cherry came in 1983 when he began his blessings as a grandfather and great grandfather. He often took his grandkids on safaris in the woods near his house. He made sure each grandchild had a long stick to ward off the lions, tigers, and bears. He is their beloved "Boompa" who played games and taught them how to shoot rubber bands and blow the paper off straws.
For many years, Jim served His LORD as an elder and was always ready to answer the call for help and give an encouraging word. He is now a part of that great cloud of witnesses.
Jim is survived by his best friend Phyllis Howell. They travelled for 13 summers to 50 states, including 2 trips to Alaska and 7 Canadian provinces including 2 trips to Nova Scotia.
He is also survived by daughters Sherry Bark and Kelly Ray. Grandchildren: Jennifer Richardson (Ronnie), David Bark, Ryan Bark, Kaitlin Ray, and Chance Lilly. Brother: Carl Howell (Linda) and numerous nieces and nephews and 3 2/3 great grandchildren.
