Along with many cousins, family and friends across the world.

On Friday, September 25, 2026, heaven gained an angel as Joan passed peacefully and went to her heavenly home to spend the rest of eternity with her Lord, her beloved husband, and all who went before her.

The first 90+ years of her life were amazing, full of adventure and travel near and far. She loved family and friends, and together with Al while he was with us, included and inspired everyone who their lives touched. Whether it was driving overnight in the packed station wagon with five children from coast to coast, to camping in the customized van at South Padre Island, to camping on the banks of the Connecticut River and the Guadalupe River, to camping trips with the grandkids, she did it all. She took most of the older grandkids on graduation or high school trips to destinations of their choice – cruises, Italy, Spain, Netherlands, Alaska, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, Bahamas, Virgin Islands…

Beginning in the early 1980’s when Jayne, Laurie, Ron and Jim began working for American Airlines and Continental/United, the bulk of the overseas travel began. In 2001, Joan and Al had already made it to every continent on cruise and land tours. Oh, the stories they had to tell! When Al passed in 2003, lifelong friend Susan became her most frequent travel companion. They met friends as they journeyed and continued to explore the world with some of them. Each of her children, local friends, some childhood friends and cousins took trips with her. In early 2000’s while applying for Russian Visa she already had 55 countries stamped in her passport and the number grew after that! She sailed halfway around the world on a 55-day cruise, 21-day Arctic cruise, many, and varied land tours, and trips to most of our country’s National Parks!

Joan was a Registered Nurse and spent most of her earlier years caring for sick and elderly at hospitals, home health care and the Veterans Hospital in Houston Texas. She was proudly able to share her passion for treating people and her prized RN nursing pin with her granddaughters Shara Cohn and Hailey Andrukitis, and great granddaughter Katie Obsharsky.

In between work and travel, she loved to do arts and crafts with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed painting, sewing, crocheting, knitting, and especially gardening.

Joan had a love for musicals, attending many with the family including Broadway, the Galveston Playhouse, and Theater Under the Stars in Houston. She also loved country music and Johnny Cash was one of her favorite old country artists.
