John P. Abraham, fondly known as Thampan, was born on February 1, 1950, the beloved youngest child of P.K. Abraham and Aleyamma of Kalloormadam Puthuparampil, Varikkad, Thiruvalla. Growing up in Varikkad, he shared his childhood with five sisters and one brother, forming bonds that shaped his life.

Thampan completed his education at SCS High School, Thiruvalla, and Marthoma College, Thiruvalla. He began his professional journey as a construction contractor in Bhilai, Madhya Pradesh, where he married his devoted wife, Annamma (Elsy). Later, he worked in Kuwait before returning to Kerala in the mid-1980s to start his own business in his hometown. In 2000, he migrated with his family to Detroit, USA, beginning a new chapter.

Thampan was a man of strong convictions and independent thought. He held firm views on every subject and never shied away from expressing them. An avid follower of Indian politics, he could spend countless hours engrossed in political news, never tiring of debates or discussions. He was a lifelong supporter of India's Congress Party, a passion he carried proudly throughout his life. His Christian faith was deeply personal, shaped by his own reflections and beliefs.

Beyond his love for politics, Thampan was a skilled chess player who delighted in playing and challenging anyone willing to take a seat across the board. He enjoyed encouraging others to learn the game and share in its strategy and fun. Equally impressive was his sharp mind for numbers; he was quick with mental calculations and could effortlessly sum multiple figures in his head, a skill that amazed those around him.

In 2009, Thampan survived a massive heart attack and underwent open-heart surgery, demonstrating his remarkable resilience and strength.

He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, blessed with a son, Aju, and his wife, Jopy; a daughter, Anju, and her husband, Jaimon; and two grandsons, Immanuel and Izaac, who brought him immense joy. In his later years, he moved to Houston, Texas, with his wife to live at his son and daughter-in-law's home, surrounded by the love and care of his family until his peaceful passing on July 4, 2025.

Thampan will be remembered for his bold spirit, steadfast opinions, love for his family, and the warmth he shared with all who knew him. His legacy of courage, passion, and individuality will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.

He will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
