John Richard Ehrlich Jr, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 15, 2026, surrounded by his loving family at the age of 82. Born in Connellsville, PA, on November 29, 1943, to John Richard Ehrlich, Sr. and Mary Ward Ehrlich, Richard lived a life marked by dedication, love, and service.

Richard's journey of love began on a baseball field in 1964 where he met the love of his life, JoAnn Markonic. After three years of courtship, they married on May 27, 1967. Their union was a testament to true partnership and unwavering love, celebrating 59 years of marriage. Together, they navigated life's challenges and joys, residing in California during Richard's service in the United States Air Force from 1967 to 1971, before returning to their roots in Connellsville and eventually settling in Texas in 1978.

Education was a cornerstone of Richard's life. A graduate of Connellsville High School in 1961, he continued his studies at Salem College, earning a BA in English with a minor in History. This foundation led to a distinguished career, beginning at Anchor Hocking Glass in 1971, where he excelled as a personnel manager and later became Director of Human Resources. He continued his career with Siemens, retiring in 2010.

Richard was a man of faith, a devout Christian and Catholic who served his community as a member and usher at St. Mary Magdalene's Church since 1983. His commitment to his faith was mirrored in his personal life, where his generosity of spirit and time was felt by all who knew him.

He was a man of many talents and interests. An Eagle Scout and a member of the rifle team in his youth, he also enjoyed baseball, playing as a pitcher and first baseman. His passion for sports extended into his family life, coaching both his wife and daughter in softball, and following NFL and college football, particularly as a dedicated Texas Aggie fan and season ticket holder since 1980.

Richard cherished his family above all, leaving behind a legacy of love and wisdom. He is survived by his beloved wife, JoAnn; his daughter, Jodi Renay Phillips, and her husband, Kelly Terence Phillips; his grandsons, John Anthony Richards and Andrew Rhett Phillips; his step-granddaughter Kristen Taylor Phillips, his brother, Robert Jeffrey Ehrlich; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Terry and Sandra Ciccone; Nephew Curtis Ciccone and wife Kristina Ciccone and his brother-in-law, Michael Markonic and wife Sara Markonic and Joseph Markonic.

Richard was preceded in death by his brother, Arthur David Ehrlich, who passed away in 2001.

Richard's life was a testament to strength, kindness, and the power of love. He was a guiding light to many, always ready with a listening ear and sage advice. His legacy will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him.
