John Stuart King of Kingwood, a beloved geologist, community leader, and devoted family man, embarked on his final journey on June 24, 2024, reuniting with his wife of 63 years, Del King, in eternal peace. He is survived by his children Karen King West and Robert Graham King, granddaughters India Stuart West and Madeline King Noga, and her husband Nick Noga.

In 1961, John met and married Miss Del Foreman in Lafayette, Louisiana, where they started a family and a lifetime of adventures that would take them around the world. He relished all of the good things in life. John enjoyed spending time with his friends and doing a variety of pursuits, including golfing, square dancing, bowling, fine dining and participating in the Frist Presbytarian Retired Men's Bible Study group. He especially cherished adventures with his family, ranging from local sporting events to fishing trips in Colorado, getaways in Galveston and The Other Place on the Comal River.

John was born in 1936 in Schenectady, New York, and baptized at Westminster Presbyterian Church in nearby Albany, New York. As an only child, John treasured spending time with his father, Robert, his mother, Mary Ann, and his dear Aunt Blanche.

John's academic journey led him to Cornell University, where he earned a geology degree in 1958. He co-captained the Ivy League Champion track team, shattering school and league records in high jump and long jump. His athletic achievements culminated in competing at the Millrose Games and the 1958 competition in London against Oxford and Cambridge, where he came in first place for high jump.

He earned a Master's Degree in Geology from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville in 1960 (Go Vols!) and began his career at Texaco Inc. in Lafayette, Louisiana. His work took the family to various locations, including New Iberia, LA, New Orleans, Milwaukee, and Houston, where he held management positions in exploration at companies like Clark Oil, Nord Petroleum, Challenger Minerals, Howell Petroleum, and The Anschutz Corporation for over forty years.

John's commitment to community service was evident throughout his career. He was an emeritus member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) and the Houston Geological Society, and held certifications as a Petroleum Geologist and Registered Environmental Manager. In retirement, he contributed to FEMA disaster response efforts with AECOM, focusing on mitigating flood damage at the Texas Medical Center in Houston. He also led initiatives in Kingwood, TX, to enhance public safety, protect water resources, and advocate for community interests during Houston's annexation of Kingwood.

John Stuart King lived a life marked by achievement, service, and love. His legacy will continue to inspire all who knew him, a testament to a life well-lived and a spirit that touched countless lives. And to all of us, he says, "The fun police never caught me, and even a blind pig finds truffles, once an awhile."
