John Martin Kirkpatrick
88, of Kingwood Texas, passed away on Oct. 6th, 2026. He was born October 11, 1937, in Haynesville, Louisiana, to H.W. and Clois (Martin) Kirkpatrick. The oilfield brought the family to Chickasha, Oklahoma, where John graduated from Chickasha High School in 1956.
In March of 1957, John married Linda Allen. To this union two daughters were born, Johnna and Pamela. That same year he began his career in the oilfield with Parker Drilling, which moved his young family from place to place. In 1963 they returned to Chickasha, where John worked for Maramont, then Big Chief Drilling, and later as a drilling consultant for Swaco.
In November of 1977, John married Peggy Duggan (Stephens). They made their home in Rush Springs, Oklahoma, where he helped raise her children, Shawn and Heather. In 1988, while working for British Petroleum, John was transferred to Kingwood, Texas. He traveled extensively as an offshore drilling consultant and later worked in Bogotá, Colombia, until his retirement in 1999.
John was a devout Christian. His greatest joy was spending every summer in Orlando, Florida, taking his grandchildren to Walt Disney World.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Peggy.
John is survived by his daughters, Johnna Stephens; Pam and Johnny Shropshire of Chickasha; and Heather and Rob Denton of Cypress, Texas; and his son, Shawn Duggan. He was blessed with 11 grandchildren: Johnathan Christian of Chickasha; Tandi and Steve Carlile of Chickasha; Judd Stephens of Chickasha; Lindsey Shropshire of Chickasha; Lacy and Ryan Gill of Hutto, Texas; Erika Venable of Chickasha; Brooke and Bryce Palmer of Chickasha; Madison Verhelst of Texas; and Alexandria, Victoria, and Mia Denton of Cypress, Texas. He was additionally blessed with 17 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Services will be Monday October 12th, at 10am, Second Baptist Church, Kingwood, Texas.
