Obituary

John E. "Johnny" Patton III of Kingwood, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at the age of 41.

A beloved husband, father, son, and brother, Johnny was cherished for his amazing sense of humor, sharp wit, and his ability to bring laughter and life to every gathering.

He is survived by his loving wife, Laura Patton, and their four children: Trace Dobricka (21), Alyssa Dobricka (20), Addison Patton (14), and JP Patton (12). His greatest joy was his children, and he treasured the time spent playing games together and watching them grow.

Johnny is also survived by his parents, John Patton Jr. and Terri Layton Patton; his sister, Taylor Clark, and her husband, Derek Clark, along with his nieces, Sloane and Penny Clark. He leaves behind his loving grandparents, Edward Layton and Carolyn and Ben Mayer, and his devoted godparents, Billie and George Vasquez. Johnny will also be profoundly missed by many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Johnny was a proud graduate of Sam Houston State University, where he served as President of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He received his Juris Doctorate from South Texas College of Law.

Beyond his professional life and family, Johnny had a rich inner life fueled by his interests. He was a true music enthusiast and dedicated Sundays to watching football. He had a passion for cooking and loved experimenting with recipes for his family to try. A fiercely intelligent man, he loved to engage in a good-natured debate—on any topic at all—and could argue his point with a signature mix of logic and hilarity.

He will be profoundly missed by all who knew him, and his memory will live on in the countless stories and laughter he left behind.

A celebration of Johnny's life will be held on Sunday, October 26, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Darst Chapel (700 Russell Palmer), followed by a reception.
