John George Tomochek was born in Rochester, Pennsylvania, on January 14, 1948, to Elizabeth (Ondeyka) and John Tomochek. He lived first in West Aliquippa, PA, then the family moved to Linmar. John graduated from Aliquippa High School in 1965. He attended Robert Morris Junior College until enlisting in the Army to fight in Vietnam.

Prior to deployment, John married his high school sweetheart, Renee (Radut). John was an Army private specializing in communications in the demilitarized zone in Vietnam. He was also stationed in Japan and Petaluma, CA.

After serving in the Army, John and Renee moved back to Rochester, PA. John worked at St. Joe Lead for 10 years before moving his young family to Houston to work for Goodyear. The family settled in Kingwood, and upon a chance meeting with the owner on the greenbelts, John began working for Kingwood Trails. He eventually bought the business and took pride in maintaining trails, parks, and the common areas of Kingwood. Remember the old Kingwood, beautiful and manicured before the city took over? That was John's company's loving care. The trails and bridges and benches that Kingwood residents still use today were all products of John's company.

During his children's youth, John coached many Kingwood soccer, softball, baseball, and basketball teams with lifelong buddy Steve Dunn. John attended First Presbyterian Church of Kingwood for over 40 years. He was an avid golfer and bookworm, and his greatest love, other than his family, was rooting for the Pittsburgh Steelers. John never met a stranger–leave him sitting on a bench for ten minutes, and he would know the full life story of the random person sitting beside him.

John's greatest call in life was being a Papa to his 5 grandkids: Gray, Ty, Mia, Emi, and Kyle. He attended every school and athletic function, and was a constant presence for rides, birthday parties, and family dinners. He kept every ticket to athletic events for the grandkids, and could always be counted on to know the score and give his own colorful commentary.

John is preceded in death by his parents, John and Elizabeth, and his son-in-law, Doug McGrath. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Renee, and children: son John and daughter-in-law Joy Tomochek, their daughters Mia and Emi, daughter Shawna McGrath, and her sons Gray, Ty, and Kyle, all of Kingwood, TX, brother David and sister-in-law Roseann Tomochek of New Castle, PA, brother-in-law David Todd and family of Kingwood, and many loving nieces and nephews in Texas and Pennsylvania.
