John P. Varughese (Johnny) was born on March 30, 1948 to late P.M Varghese and late Annamma Varghese of Puthiyapuraiyadam, Uthimoodu, Pathanamthitta. He passed away in Houston, Texas on October 1, 2024. He is survived by his wife, Annamma John of Thekkekuttu House, Vallikade, Nilambur; children, Shiny Annamma John and Reena Varughese Philips; son-in-law Steven Philips; and grandchildren, Annmarie Thomas (Anju), Noah and Micah Phillips. He is also survived by his 5 brothers and 1 sister and their families.

Johnny completed his grade school in Kerala and went on to attend St. Thomas College - Ranni where he would major in Religious Studies and play on the college's basketball team. Johnny and Annamma were married on June 19, 1975 at Emmanueal Mar Thoma Church, Edakkara. They began their married life in New Delhi where soon after they were blessed with their first daughter, Shiny, in 1977. Two years later, they would migrate to Libya and live there from 1979 to 1982, before they moved to Houston, Texas in 1983. The family started their life in the USA together and were blessed with their second daughter, Reena, in 1985.

Johnny began employment in Houston, TX where he would take on several leadership roles such as being Supervisor at TAC, Regional Director at Mart Optical, and Optical Manager at Eagle Eye Center. He had an incredible work ethic and was loved by all who knew him.

Johnny fought his battle against lung cancer for five long years. Despite spending much of that time in and out of treatment, he never lost his positive spirit. Through God's gift of resilience and perseverance, Johnny was able to accomplish all that he sought out to do, such as taking extended trips to India almost every year. He was a selfless individual, who not only helped much of his family, but several individuals who were less fortunate. Johnny had an infectious smile, and his charming and witty nature will forever be missed.
