Our sweet baby girl has been lost way too early. Julia Amburn lost her battle with drug addiction on Saturday, March 11. Drugs extinguished the bright light in our lives - not unlike many with addiction who were before her, and sadly, many who will be after her. Her beautiful smile and amazing sense of humor are now gone forever.

Julia was a beautiful baby girl who was extremely vocal during her first two years of life, causing us many sleepless nights! She grew up as a loving, kind, and very soft-hearted child and young adult. Julia had many friends, excelled in school, and was a varsity swimmer by 10th grade. She loved animals and music.

Julia had so many loving friends and family - each one destroyed by her decision to begin taking drugs as a teenager. Julia had twin boys that were unable to pull her out of the darkness. She gave them up and that may have been her last act of mercy. After the boys were born, Julia sunk deeper and deeper into her addiction; each unspeakable thing she did increased her shame, pain, and took her self-worth to unimaginable lows - all in the name of dependence and lies the drugs told her every day.

As a society, we must stop the stigma and shame that surrounds mental illness and drug addiction. We tried to save Julia against a beast that was just too strong to fight. We encourage parents to have conversations with their kids early on about the dangers of the drugs that are on our streets today in every city around the country.

We want Julia's life to not be in vain - if her death can help one person climb out of the hole that this terrible disease drags you deeper and deeper into, her precious life can, in the end, have a strong and meaningful purpose.

Julia is survived by her father, Brian; her mother, Julie; her sister, Breana; her twin boys, Lennox and Hendrix; her Nina, Judy; her aunts, Michelle and Sheri; her uncle, Shannon; and her many friends. Special thanks would like to be given to the Worzel family for going through some extremely tough times with us and helping along our journey.

Julia, we love you - rest in peace sweet girl - your demons are gone now.

A private memorial will be held on Saturday, March 18 at Darst Funeral Home.
