Obituary

Margaret Adams embarked on her final journey on January 18th, 2025, at age 80, surrounded by her loving family. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Samuel Lee Adams, and six siblings. She is survived by a brother and sister, her children, and dozens of descendants, spanning four generations.

Born Margaret Frances Gantt on January 1st, 1945, near her childhood home in Lavaca, Arkansas, she was raised in Fresno, California. Following many years living in Texas, Missouri, California and Hawaii, she settled in Oakdale, Louisiana, for the next 54 years.

Margaret was blessed with a myriad of talents. A highly proficient seamstress and painter, she was gifted with creative crafts. Even those who did not know her well thought her adeptness in the kitchen was her greatest gift. She fed thousands of people and perfected the art of recreating recipes with her own particular flair. Margaret was the heart of family gatherings, especially in her favorite role as mom and grandmother. Her family joked that she was so organized that she made lists to organize all her lists. While the joke may be a "slight" exaggeration, Margaret was extremely effective in her professional pursuits, family gatherings, church and school functions, and volunteer efforts.

Margaret ran several businesses out of the Adams Pest Control office in Oakdale, although the pest control business remained the flagship, serving the Allen Parish area for well over 50 years. She also spent many years fighting illiteracy with the Reading Education and Adult Development program in Oakdale. She was a longstanding member of the United Methodist Women, especially active when her children were young.

1 Corinthians 13:4 "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud."

Margaret was an empathetic soul. She loved easily, giving of herself daily to those she met. Unlike so many of us, she could not ignore someone in need. Whether it was tutoring literacy or life skills, helping overcome personal obstacles, or even assisting with dental work to improve self-esteem and opportunity, she was there to help. She did this out of care for others, without seeking praise or reciprocity. She exemplified the quiet nature of her faith through her humanity, strength, and grace. She will be greatly missed by friends, family, and the community that she made brighter.

A memorial service will be held at the United Methodist Church in Oakdale, LA on Sunday, February 16th, 2025 at 1:00 PM. A celebration of life will follow in the attached Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, please consider giving to one of Margaret's favorite charities:
