Martha Doloros Carter went home to the Lord on January 19, 2024, with the love of her husband, Nolan, ever present since the day they married 33 years ago on June 2, 1990. She passed away peacefully from complications of Alzheimer's.

Martha, the third child of a bustling military family, was born on December 16, 1950. Stationed in an array of cities in the United States and in London, England, this formative time for Martha undoubtedly kindled her life-long love of travel, other cultures, and languages. She pursued undergraduate studies at Mundelein College in Chicago, then to the University of Madrid, and ultimately Eastern Kentucky University. It was these years that endeared and perfected Martha's interest in, and proficiency of, the Spanish language.

Having totally immersed herself in her language studies, Martha's talent flourished and she soon found she was not only an excellent Spanish speaker, she was now a sought- after teacher for others. She began her career at her alma mater, Carroll High School, in Ohio. Her next step was teaching native Spanish-speaking girls in Cuernavaca, Mexico. Martha then made her way to Texas where she taught at both Humble and Kingwood High Schools. Here she met and married Nolan, another Spanish teacher, who was the love of her life. Before retiring from teaching, Martha formally taught not only two of her younger siblings and three nephews, but hundreds of young people to learn and appreciate the language.

Fun-loving and generous in her nature, Martha spread joy easily. She exhibited a special affinity for her younger generations of grandchildren, nieces and nephews, often treating them to frequent surprises - both big and small: a non-stop supply of Beanie Babies, a dip in the pool, funky straws, golf cart jaunts, theme park rides, Kermit and Miss Piggy swag, animated movies, and Chick-Fil-A trips to name a few. While those she treated enjoyed their presents, it was the gift of love that Martha truly gave them in a way they easily understood; by simply spending time together. Martha delighted in the delight of others, and in return, she was truly blessed and deeply loved.

In addition to her husband, Nolan, Martha is survived by her stepchildren Katie Carter Elsbury (Bill), and Jason Carter (Sarah); granddaughters Emma, Evie, and Jane Kate; sisters Mary Wetzel (Mike), Madelaine Santo (Bob), Dea Brayden (Bob), her one and only favorite brother John Marlin (Stephanie); and a host of nieces and nephews and their families. Martha is preceded in death by her parents Larry and Cecilia Marlin, and her sister Miriam Mansfield (Rob). Service Information A visitation for family and friends will be held at 10:00 a.m. on February 1, 2024, at St. Martha's Church, 4301 Woodridge Parkway, Porter, TX 77365.
