Charles R. Martin passed away peacefully at his home in Kingwood, Texas, on September 15, 2019 at the age of 76. After entering at-home hospice care, he was surrounded by family members, friends and former colleagues during his last two weeks.

Charlie was a man of great character, and he gave generously of his time, talents and judgment to those around him. He will be remembered by his many friends and colleagues for his fierce loyalty, generosity, kindness and principles. He will be remembered by his family for his boundless love.

Charlie was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on January 18, 1943. He graduated from Ferguson High School in 1961 and received his bachelor's degree in civil engineering in 1965 from the Missouri School of Mines (now, Missouri University of Science and Technology).

Over his years in the heavy construction industry with Dravo Corporation, Becon Construction, Century Contractors and others, he managed large construction projects in Mexico, South America, Canada and throughout the United States, living with his family at his major overseas postings. Until his retirement in 2001, he headed the Houston office for TIC-The Industrial Company, of Steamboat Springs, Colorado, and steered that company into turn-key power and co-generation projects. He was an exceedingly loyal employee and conscientious mentor, and he treated every project as if his own assets and reputation were at risk.

Charlie is survived by Mary, his wife of 50 years; two sons, Dave, his wife Kay and their daughters Sarah and Elizabeth, of The Woodlands, and Andy, his wife Andrea and their two daughters Julia and Lauren, of Humble; three siblings, Madeleine (Arthur) Obrock of Shaker Heights, Ohio; John (Sharon) Martin of Marion, Massachusetts; and David (Julie) Martin of Houston; and a number of nieces and nephews and their children.

Charlie appreciated the great medical care he received in Houston from the transplant team at Houston Methodist Hospital and doctors at The Kidney Institute, especially Drs. Wadi Suki and Juan Gonzalez, who helped guide him through three kidney transplants and related treatments for more than 30 years. Charlie's family encourages all to consider becoming an organ donor.
