In Loving Memory of Mary Agnes LaMark Berry

​April 24, 1946 - June 4, 2026

​It is with deep love and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Agnes LaMark Berry, who left this world peacefully on June 4, 2026. She was 80 years old.

​Mary lived a life defined by an extraordinary capacity of an unwavering faith, and a belief that no one was beyond the reach of grace and redemption.

​

A Cornerstone of Family

​To her family, Mary was the ultimate anchor. As a mother, she was a constant source of unconditional love, wisdom, and guidance. She taught her child the value of the strength found in resilience.

​When she became a grandmother, her world expanded into pure joy. She possessed the rare gift of making each grandchild feel like the most important person in the room, leaving them with an enduring blueprint of how to love others well.

​A Sanctuary in the Darkest Places

​While her family was her heart, her life's work was her calling. Mary served as a prison chaplain. Walking into environments often defined by despair, she brought a quiet, radical presence of hope.

​Mary did not look at past mistakes; she looked at the human soul. To the thousands of individuals she ministered to over time, she was a lifeline—a steady presence who listened to the forgotten and reminded them of their inherent worth. Her ministry extended far beyond Sunday services; it lived in the quiet conversations, the grief shared over lost loved ones, and the steady encouragement that helped many rebuild their lives upon release. She believed deeply in the power of second chances, and her legacy lives on in the countless lives she helped restore.

Her Enduring Legacy

She is preceded in death by her husband, Bennie Berry; her parents Florence Byrd LaMark and Alfred Lee LaMark; her sisters Ezola LaMark, Hattie Maddox and brother Alfred LaMark Jr.

Mary resided in Porter, Texas whereby she attended Phyllis Wheatley High School. She later graduated from the College of Biblical Studies. She was a loving mother, sister and minister.

​Mary is survived by her loving daughter, Aayesha LaMark Kitchen; Son in Love, Lamond Kitchen; granddaughter, Aaniyah Kitchen; grandson, La'Ron Kitchen; her sisters Florence Barnaba-McClean, Thelma LaMark-Cox; her brother, Charles Edward LaMark Sr. and numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of extended family, relatives and friends.

A celebration of Mary's life will be held June 20, 2026 at 11:00am at New Day Deliverance Church, 9001 Mesa Dr, Houston, TX 77028
