Mathew (Babu)
Varughese
Dec 1, 1955 — Oct 6, 2024
Mathew Varughese (Babu) was born to the late PM George and late Saramma George of the Podippara Thadathil family in Thadiyoor, Pathanamthitta. He was their eldest son and had two younger brothers, Skariah Varughese (Sunny) and Jose Varughese. He obtained his Diploma in A/C Engineering from American Institute of Engineering Technology, Kozhencherry. He started his career working in Trivandrum, and later moved to Bombay for better opportunities. He migrated to Dubai, UAE in 1982 and lived and worked there for over 25 years.
In 1988, Babu met his beautiful wife, Mary Mathew (Santhi), who is the third daughter of the late K.T. Thomas and the late Aleyamma Thomas of the Kaliyamadathil family from Mallapally. They got married on January 25th, 1988, and were blessed with three children: Binsu Sara Mathew, Bibin George Mathew, and Biya Aleena Mathew. During his time in Dubai, Babu worked in many positions, and his last job was with Carrier AC as their factory supervisor. He was an active member of the Sharjah MarThoma Church.
Later, in 2006, Babu and his family moved to Detroit, Michigan for a brief period, and finally settled in Houston, Texas. He was a member of Immanuel MarThoma Church, Houston, TX. He was someone who was always active and loved traveling with his family. In the early years of living in the US, he worked in Miami, FL, as a supervisor for a private firm. He later decided to move back home with his family in Houston, and worked at Transtar AC Supply in Houston, Texas. He loved his line of work and took on responsibilities of a supervisor with great pride. He worked until his unfortunate accident that caused him a traumatic brain injury in 2020.
Unfortunately, since 2020, he has had multiple health issues; but through it all, his faith grew stronger. Every day, he would talk about wanting to go see the Maramon Convention and would always enjoy the beautiful Christian hymns. Even during his last days, through the pain and suffering, he would perk up when he heard a Christian song being played.
Babu departed from this life on October 6th, 2024 and joined his parents, in-laws, and son-in-law (Ranju Mathew Varughese) in the heavenly abode, a place where he always wanted to be.
His legacy is carried on through his loving wife, Mary Mathew, his children Binsu, Bibin, and Biya, and daughter-in-law Meera Alexander.
