Michael David Atchison passed away peacefully in his sleep on September 5, 2026. He was born in 1938, in Gallup, New Mexico, later moving with his mother, stepfather, and two sisters to Texas, growing up there during World War II. He eloped with his high school sweetheart Betty in 1956, and their son David Wesley was born in 1957.

Michael joined the US Army at age 19; he and Betty divorced in 1958. While stationed in Germany, he met Margrit Koch in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany in July 1960. Margrit later traveled to the US, and they married in February, 1961, in Fort Worth, Texas. Their daughters Christina and Stephanie were born there, and they lived for several years in Arlington, Texas until moving to Houston.

Throughout his life, Michael enjoyed photography of Nature with his dogs, as well as traveling. He is preceded in death by his wife Margrit Koch Atchison, by both of his parents, by his sisters Linda Speight and Dixie Bamburg, and by his son, David Wesley O’Rear.

Michael is survived by his daughter Christina (Randal) Frisbie, daughter Stephanie (Steven) Roberts, and granddaughter Ashley Smith.
