Joe Angel Ramirez was born in Gregory, Texas on March 28th, 1933 to Ramiro and Juanita (Santana) Ramirez. He was the second eldest of 16 children. He grew up in Baytown and joined the U.S. Navy before his high school graduation. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1950-1954 onboard the USS Mark, AKL-12, in the Philippines and Okinawa. While in the Navy, he got his GED and later graduated from college with a degree in accounting. He was proud of his Navy service and always saluted when he heard, "Anchors Away." He loved watching old war movies.

Joe worked for Pan Am for 27 years, where he was in operations, ticketing, and reservations. He met Nancy James in Miami, Florida at the Pan Am reservations center. They were married in February of 1994 at the First Presbyterian Church in Pasadena, Texas. When Pan Am went out of business, he and Nancy joined Continental airlines and moved to Houston, Texas, in 1995.

Joe was compassionate toward both animals and human beings. Nancy tells the story of Joe bringing home a litter of 8 stray puppies and their mother. Joe and Nancy eventually found good homes for all 9 dogs. Joe expressed compassion for people by helping in material ways-whether it was fixing a widow's car, helping a friend with plumbing trouble, or teaching a young man to tie his tie. His children remember him buying a meal for a homeless person who was in need.

Joe and Nancy joined First Presbyterian Church of Kingwood, where Joe was an elder and usher captain. One of their favorite church activities was going to Peru on 5 mission trips. Joe served as an interpreter for the doctors as he was fluent in Spanish and English.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy; his children Joe (Rosie) of Pearland, TX; Victor (Dianna) of Austin, TX; Diane of Houston, TX; Robert (Michele) of Zavala, TX; Felipe of Zavala, TX; his siblings, Manuel, Candido, Richard, Rudy, and Rosie Duron; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many friends and relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, several siblings, and his daughter, Susan.
