Obituary

We are sad to announce the passing of Rana Rizk (50 years). Rana passed away on the morning of April 29th, 2024, with her family by her side after a difficult battle with cancer. Born to Mariam Shaheen and Rasheed Rizk on December 4th, 1973, in Damascus, Syria, she was greatly cherished by her parents as their only child. Rana was an admirable, kind and loving person who was loved by many, and she lived a life filled with joy and devotion to her family.

At a very young age, it was apparent that she was incredibly bright, and she expressed curiosity for the beautiful world around her. She earned high marks in high school, and was accepted to study at Damascus University, where she earned her bachelor's degree in chemistry. Following graduation, she started her career in a chemistry consultation company for a few years. Later, she taught high school chemistry for eight years, where she was greatly respected and loved by her students.

Rana married her beloved husband Nidal Shaheen in 2000 in a traditional Orthodox Christian ceremony at the Holy Cross Church in Damascus. They went on to have four children who became the center of her world: Maria, Joyce, Stefany, and Karam. Rana was fully devoted to her children and family, filling their lives with love, happiness, tenderness, and support.

Rana spent most of her time with her family, and she enjoyed taking trips to the beach and to her family's village in the mountains. She was a devout Orthodox Christian, and an active member of her church in Damascus, contributing to many of its societies and organizations with dedication and love. Everyone who knew Rana knew real love and friendship. She had a pure heart and gentle spirit.

She courageously battled with cancer, always maintaining a positive attitude and grateful heart, and having a deep faith in God and in His mercy.

Rana will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and anyone who was blessed to know her.

A funeral for Rana will be held on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at St. George Orthodox Christian Church on 5311 Mercer St. in Houston, Texas. Viewing will begin at 9:30 AM and the funeral service will begin at 10:00 AM.
