Robert Harvey Corgey entered into the arms of Jesus and rejoined his beautiful wife of over 50 years on Thursday, May 11, 2023. After 86 trips around the sun, his weary body finally found rest and he is now healed and whole and sharing a wonderful Homecoming with his loved ones who have gone home before him.

Bobby was born in Houston, Texas, on January 1, 1937, to Harvey and Nita Corgey. He was the youngest of their three sons, and the family soon grew with the addition of his two younger sisters, but it is safe to say that he was probably more of a handful by himself than the other four put together! One of his favorite pastimes was to reminisce on the mischief he got into as a child growing up in Houston and then later when the family moved to Beaumont - there is no doubt that he kept his momma on her toes! With an uncommon last name like Corgey, he had quite the tough act to follow as his older brothers paved the way for him, but he definitely had a way of making himself known and remembered!

Bobby attended South Park High School and graduated in 1955, whereupon he followed his older brothers into military service to our great nation by enlisting in the United States Army. He served from 1956 to 1959, and as you can imagine he had quite a few tales to tell from those years, as well. Upon his discharge, he returned home to Beaumont, where a visit to the Newberry's soda counter would change his life forever. A beautiful young lady named Phyllis Young caught his eye, and so began a love story that would span the next 5 decades. If anyone ever came close to taming him, it was her, and they built a life together raising 4 children and later on welcoming a grandson who became the light of both of their lives.

A machinist by trade, Bobby could fix ANYTHING, and he used those talents to support his family by devoting himself to careers for two major employers in his lifetime. He worked for NCR for 17 years, and then in 1977 he became a service engineer for Signode Corporation, working there until his retirement in 1999. He travelled all over the southern United States and several times to a few other countries during his years with Signode, and true to form the stories of his adventures continued. In his "spare time" he also served as a reserve deputy in Hitchcock, Texas, drove an ambulance, drove a wrecker, and spent many Saturdays with his good friend, K, helping to keep things going at K's Humble Yamaha. Along with this he maintained a home for his family and catered to the many design whims of his Phyllis - if she could dream it, he could make it a reality!

The years since he lost his dear wife in 2011 have not been the easiest. Bobby enjoyed good health before then, and was thankfully able to take care of Phyllis during her decline into Alzheimer's. She had taken such good came of him all the days of their lives together, and he definitely stepped up and did an incredible job with her until the very end. After her death, he carried on, but health concerns became an issue for him, as well. On May 11, his weakened body drew its last breath this side of Heaven, but he is gloriously healed and whole again with his mother and father, Harvey and Nita, his dear wife, Phyllis, his brothers, Donald and Charles, and his sister, Elaine and her husband, Ray. He is survived by his youngest sister, Mary Anne Kinsey, and her husband, Wayne, his sisters-in-law, Betty Corgey and Susan Corgey, his sons Mark, Ronald, and Charles, his daughter, Karyn Ryder and her husband John, and his beloved grandson and namesake, John Robert "Bobby" Ryder. He is also survived by a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews, and leaves behind many cherished friends. He never met a stranger, and he would be the first one to step up and help anyone in need. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends, but we can all take solace in the fact that he is healed and enjoying a wonderful Homecoming in Heaven with all of those who have gone before him.
