Robert “Bob” Owen
Spence
Oct 4, 1953 — Mar 8, 2024
Robert "Bob" Owen Spence, 70, sadly passed away on March 8, 2024, surrounded by his wife, two daughters, and loving family. Bob was born to parents Owen and Ida Spence (ne Cover) on October 4, 1953, in Chicago, Illinois. He was a devoted son, brother, uncle, and loving husband to Deborah these past 31 years, and the proud father to six children, twelve grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.
Bob joined the Army after attending William Howard Taft high school in Chicago and was in the service for two years. Having returned to life in the Chicagoland area, he married Alicia Torres in 1975 and had two daughters. Bob remarried in 1992 to Deborah Kristan (ne Stanley) and resided in Crystal Lake, Illinois where they raised Bob's two daughters and Deborah's youngest son. Bob's profession as a mechanical engineer started with his father at Nu-Dell Plastics Corporation in Chicago until the late 1980s when they both joined Olcott Plastics in Arlington Heights. Bob then moved on and enjoyed a 20+ year career at Amflex Packaging in Skokie, Illinois, rising in the ranks from sales rep to president and eventually becoming the owner of the corporation.
In 2018, Bob and Deb retired to Texas, making their new home with their family in Kingwood. Bob spent these last five years as a fulltime avid outdoors man; hunting, fishing, and playing golf with his family and best friend he frequently called "brother", Adelin Coroiescu. Bob was an unforgettable person, whether he was telling you a story, learning the guitar, or was the life of the party, he sure made an indelible impression. He was greatly loved and will be deeply missed.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents Owen and Ida Spence, his siblings Daniel and Debra, his stepson Christopher Kristan, and grandson Layne Kristan. He is survived by his wife Deborah Spence, Daughters Amy (Tom) Pavlicek, and Diana Spence, Stepchildren Michelle (Matt) Walkington, Glenn (Mary Anne) Kristan, and Kimberly (Jim) Harvalis, Grandchildren Josh, Drew, Taylor, Jordan, Robert, Jesse, Chase, Alyssa, Julian, Tyler and Ignacio, his sister Brenda Spence Hucke, and nieces Lisa, Dawn, and Chrissy.
Memorial services are planned at Woodridge Baptist Church, Kingwood TX in March with internment at Ridgewood Cemetery, Des Plaines, IL in June where his family is laid to rest. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association online at www.heart.org or by calling 1-800-242-8721.
