Obituary

Sandra (Sandy) Prestridge, 78, of Atascocita, Texas, passed away May 16, 2023.

Sandy always called herself a "farmer's daughter" and was born to Evans Cormier and Grace (LeJeune) Cormier April 19, 1945, in Oberlin, Louisiana. She spent her early years in the town of Gillis, Louisiana, and was the eldest of seven siblings. One Saturday night at a local Sock Hop in Lake Charles, Sandra asked a young man, Glenn Prestridge, to dance. They have been dancing ever since. Glenn brought this farmer's daughter to Germany when they married in 1963, where they had their first child. After serving in the Army, they returned to the States, settling first in Louisiana, and welcomed their second child. They eventually moved to Texas and welcomed their third child, living a very good life in Orange for almost 30 years. During that time Sandy worked in the school system and then for an insurance agency.

Glenn and Sandra traveled extensively throughout their marriage. At work she was excellent at organizing and managing; and at home and with her extended family, Sandy showed her love through cooking, cleaning, and making a house a home, no matter what or where that home may be. In her retirement years, she enjoyed fishing, tending to her yard and flowers, time with her grandchildren, and having friends and family visit her home on Toledo Bend. Ragley (near Gillis) eventually became her hometown again when Sandy and Glenn decided to be closer to her sisters, their son, and physicians. Then, more recently, they moved back to Texas, this time to a retirement community, to be near their daughters; grandchildren; and, joyfully, their great grandchildren. All her nieces and nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren, near and far, always gave Sandy great delight. She loved them dearly and prayed for them daily.

Sandra is preceded in death by her parents, Evans and Grace Cormier; her sister, Deborah Cormier; and her infant brother. She is survived by her devoted husband of nearly 60 years, Glenn Prestridge; her children, Cynthia Everett (husband, Jeffrey); Michael Prestridge (wife, Wendy); and Holly Burns (husband, Kevin); 11 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Elaine Harlow, Lynn Pierce, Ginger Cormier, and Pam Abshire; as well as numerous nieces and nephews to whom she was always "Nanny."

A private Celebration of Sandra's Life will be held at a future date. Service Information A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
