Thomas Layne Knight Jr. was born in Rosston, Arkansas on August 11,1935 to Thomas L. Knight, Sr. and Myrtle Berry Knight. He spent his early childhood years in Bluff City Arkansas among a large, loving family group. His immediate family moved to Bastrop, Louisiana where he graduated from Bastrop High School. After high school, he attended Louisiana Polytechnic University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering in 1958. He met his future wife, Peggy Ann Blocker in high school and they became lifetime sweethearts. They married on May 31,1956 and welcomed their daughter Beverly G. Stewart born on December 2, 1957 in Ruston, Louisiana. Their second daughter Becky L. Crum was born in Savannah, Georgia on October 19, 1960.

After college,Tom enlisted in the Air Force in 1958 where he proudly served our country as a Second Lieutenant until1964. After a lifetime of moving around the country, Tom and Peggy moved to Kingwood, Texas and became pioneers of Kingwood when it was little more than a concept for a suburban community. Tom worked for Pennzoil and commuted to downtown Houston daily where he helped develop their IT department during a quickly rising computer age and a booming oil and gas industry.

Tom and Peggy helped found Kingwood United Methodist Church and became charter members. They rose to the challenges of a new community and the formation of a new church. He enjoyed the friends they made in the early days of Kingwood. When he wasn’t working, you could find Tom on the golf course or the tennis court at Kingwood Country Club.

After retiring, he and Peggy built their dream home on Lake Livingston, Texas and spent many happy years there. Our family has so many fond memories of visits and those epic fish frys that were so terrific.

They moved back home to Kingwood almost 29 years ago where they were able to be present for the family celebrations that meant so much to them. A part of Tom left us when his beloved wife, Peggy passed away in 2017. Tom missed her every single day and now, his long wait is over and they are reunited. 

Tom is survived by two daughters, seven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

In accordance with Tom’s private nature, the family has chosen to celebrate Tom’s life quietly and privately at this time.
