Usha was a 5′ tiny fireball of a woman whose presence made everyone who met her feel comfortable and special. Her energy and smile will be remembered and felt by her family, longtime friends as well as those that met her briefly. She radiated a beautiful warmth that made everyone always feel welcome.

She came from India to the United States in 1971 at the age of 29 and made friends immediately. She learned how to drive, began making American food with an Indian twist and took on her new life with grace and strength.

Usha loved entertaining and laughing and feeding her friends and family. Her backyard parties were filled with laughter, music, lots of food and late-night card playing with tea being served at 1 am. Seeing others happy and laughing created joy for her, it was that simple for her.

Years later, she turned this passion into a thriving business. Known for her amazing samosas throughout Atlanta, Usha made her dream a reality in 1989 and she and her husband, Harshad, opened Indian Delights - the first Indian vegetarian restaurant in the Southeast.

What everyone remembers about this "beautiful soul of a woman" is her tenacity, sparkle and that she treated people as if she had known them forever. There was never a stranger in her midst and so no wonder when the family announced her passing, almost every person referred to her as their best friend. Her smile and energy and love for others was magical to the end.

And the bigger love beyond the food, parties and restaurant was her adoration of her family. Her husband, daughters and six grandkids were her life. Nothing made her smile more than to feed the birds with her grandchildren or stuff their faces with food during her afternoon cha.

Usha passed away on February 27th with that same love around her. And so, we honor her beautiful soul and presence in this world as there's a bright new star in the heavens and every one that knew her can feel it. Of this, we are sure.
