March 3, 1941 - July 27, 2019
Lynn Dale Avis, 78, of Kingwood, TX was born in Camden, New Jersey on March 3, 1941 and entered into rest on Friday, July 27, 2019. Lynn was the youngest of eight children born to Paul Revere Avis and Helen Roork Avis. He proudly served his county in the United States Marine Corps, where he served from 1959 to 1963 and attained the rank as Corporal, receiving a Good Conduct Medal and Sharpshooter Rifle Badge. After his service, he attended Girard College and San Jacinto College, and soon after began his career as a laboratory technician.
On May 8, he was married to Shirlee Avis in Odessa, TX. After serving in his field for 54 years, Lynn retired in 2009. After retirement he dedicated his time to travel, fishing, hunting, and growing all kinds of colors of tomatoes. In his free time, Lynn enjoyed history- and watched the History Channels or Veterinary stories, collected gadgets he ordered off of TV, and was excited for the annual deer lease and the time he was able to spend at the lake cabin. Lynn was a member of the Jaycees and Masons, and while involved organized the Rattlesnake Roundup in the Jaycees. He will be remembered for being amusing, entertaining, his joy of fishing trips, and hunting Texas game. Lynn is survived by his wife, Shirlee Avis; step-daughter, Maritia Lynn Wilson; grandsons, Justin Gregg, Noah Marburger, Zachariah Marburger; 8 great-grandchildren; and sister, Caryl Blakely.
