Charlene (Handlovsky) Singer was born March 9, 1930 in Duluth, Minnesota to Norman and Celia (Tilsner) Handlovsky and died peacefully on July 29, 2019 in Kingwood, Texas surrounded by family, following a stroke.
Charlene is preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Arnold Baker Singer, brother Pacy Handlovsky (Cape May, NJ) and parents Norman and Celia (Tilsner) Handlovsky (Duluth, MN).
Left to cherish her memory is her sister Renee Silverman of Minneapolis, MN., daughters Vicki Singer Norris and husband Michael (Kingwood, TX) and Gail Mindy Singer and husband Mark McGrath (The Meadows, TX). For 28 years Charlene was a beloved Bubbie (grandmother) to her two grandchildren, David Takeo White and Cecelia Kyoko White, whom she cared for everyday until they began school. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Charlene and Arny’s adventures took them from Minneapolis to Baltimore, then on to Atlanta and eventually settling in Stone Mountain, Georgia. In their later years they moved to Mobile, AL to be close to their grandchildren and daughters. After Arny’s death she moved to Houston, TX where she lived with Vicki and Michael for 15 years.
Charlene enjoyed spontaneous day trips with her daughters, music and animals (her special dog was Oompah Loompah), scratching lottery tickets, crossword puzzles, enjoying a good meal and spending time with family and friends, especially in her last year while living at Reunion Court.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later date in Mobile, Alabama where she will be interred next to her husband.
