Mary Kathryn Chovan, 97, of Clairton, Pennsylvania was born on April 27, 1922 and passed away on Thursday October 17, 2019. She was the eighth of nine children born to parents, Anna (Kmetz) and Joseph P. Slavick.
Mary was educated at the local schools in Elizabeth, Pennsylvania. On November 23, 1942 she and John E. Chovan were married at St. Joseph’s Church in Clairton, PA. After John’s retirement, they enjoyed traveling with church groups and family. Throughout her life, Mary lived in Elizabeth, PA, Clairton PA, Jefferson, PA, and Kingwood, TX. She was a devoted parishioner of St. Martha’s Catholic Church in Kingwood, TX where she was active on the church committee and was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America.
Mary was a friend to everyone she met, she was loving and warm-hearted. Her marriage of 73 years, the birth of her children and grandchildren were among her most important life events and fondest memories. In her spare time, Mary loved cooking, baking, gardening, and home décor.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, John Edward Chovan, who passed away on October 17, 2014 and son, John Edward Chovan Jr. who passed away on August 10, 2010.
A visitation will be held at Darst Funeral Home on Thursday October 24, 2019 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. A rosary will be recited during this time at 6:30pm. A funeral mass will be held on Friday October 25, 2019 at 10:45am at St. Martha’s Catholic Church in Kingwood, TX. A reception will follow the funeral mass at Darst Funeral Home.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 24, 2019 at Darst Funeral Home at 5:00pm with a rosary to be recited at 6:30pm.
A funeral mass will take place Friday, October 25, 2019 at St. Martha’s Catholic Church in Kingwood, TX, at 10:30am. A reception will follow the funeral mass at Darst Funeral Home.
