OBITUARY

On Sunday, December 29, Jo Ann Wietzel Porter Seevers, loving mother to two, grandmother to five and great-grandmother to two, passed away at the age of 90 after a long illness. She was cared for by her family and wonderful caregivers.

 

Jo Ann was born in San Antonio, Texas on March 24, 1929, to Joseph and Ruby Wietzel. She lived in San Antonio with her parents and grandmother, Emma “Todie” Wietzel, and studied at Our Lady of the Lake University until her wedding to Arthur Porter in 1949. They later moved to Corpus Christi to raise their two children, Mary Jo and Arthur Jr. In 1970, Arthur Sr. passed away suddenly. Jo Ann married James Seevers in 1973 and they remained married until his death in 1980. In 2009, after more than 50 years in Corpus Christi, Jo Ann moved to Houston, TX.

 

Jo Ann taught kindergarten and her generous, energetic and kind heart touched many. She loved to travel and had a passion for interior design, collecting art and antiques from all over the world. She had a joy for sports and entertaining. She loved to cook and was known for her quick wit, dedication to her family and spectacular parties. She was greatly loved by her family and friends.

 

Jo Ann was preceded in death by her first husband Arthur Porter Sr., second husband James Seevers and step-son James Seevers Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Jo Porter Logue, her husband Rick Logue and their children Kathryn (her children Elizabeth and Joseph), Rachael, Claire (and her spouse Brandon Baker); her son Arthur Henry Porter Jr, his wife Shelly Porter and their daughter Holley; step-son Branch Seevers, and his son Calvin.

 

A service will be held on Wednesday, January 8th at 10 a.m. in the main sanctuary at St. Martha’s Catholic Church at 4301 Woodridge Pkwy in Porter, TX. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Jo Ann’s favorite charities, St. Jude Children’s Hospital and Smile Train.
